Old contracts are expiring, so the diaconal social enterprise LebensWerkstatt, which supports over 1,400 people with disabilities, will also have to reckon with rising electricity and gas prices from 2023. At its current nine locations in the Heilbronn-Franken region, the company is countering this development with extensive energy-saving measures, such as repairing leaky windows and doors and installing water-saving adapters.
“We are very happy about the renewed Hörtkorn donation at Christmas, it helps us a lot with our current projects. The installation of new water-saving adapters at all locations alone costs around 30,000 euros,” reports Dr. Rainer Ziday, Head of Administration at LebensWerkstatt.
In the extreme summer of 2022, heat records were also set in some departments, and it was almost impossible to work on the premises on these days. Therefore, those responsible decided to implement suitable heat protection measures, including for the workshop in Öhringen.
“If buildings are optimally equipped and insulated so that energy costs do not arise in the first place, more money remains for the actual work. We are happy to support this project as a long-standing partner of LebensWerkstatt,” says Christian Hörtkorn, managing director and owner of the Hörtkorn Group of Companies.
